Las Glorias

The Glòries Shopping Center, now known as Westfield Glòries, is located in the Plaza de las Glòries Catalanes, in the Sant Martí district of Barcelona. Opened in 1995, this shopping center was built with the intention of becoming a commercial reference in the city. Since its opening, it has been renovated and expanded several times to adapt to changes in consumer habits. Its location, at a key point in the city, between Avenida Diagonal, Gran Vía and Avenida Meridiana, makes it easily accessible and makes it a place of great urban importance.

History and construction

The Glòries Shopping Center opened its doors in 1995 as part of an urban renewal project for the Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, a historically problematic area in terms of planning and circulation. The intention was to revitalize the area, turn it into a modern and functional space and serve both residents and visitors.

Over the years, the center has been renovated to keep up with current trends and offer a better user experience. In 2017, a major remodeling was carried out, where they opted for a more open design, with outdoor spaces, green areas and rest areas, moving away from the image of a closed shopping center and providing a more sustainable environment.

Architectural features

The architectural design of Westfield Glòries combines modern and functional elements with wide open spaces that facilitate the transit of visitors. The integration of metal structures and glass facades allows for greater natural light and brings a contemporary aesthetic to the complex.

One of the highlights of its renovation is the incorporation of green areas and rest areas, creating a more welcoming and sustainable environment. The new design is based on an open-air shopping center concept, where commercial spaces are combined with pedestrian plazas, fountains and street furniture that encourage visitors to stay longer.
